Regular ol’ werewolves got you down? Then how about a group of marsupial werewolves from Australia that roam the outback? Being a guy who really didn’t like “Jaws” as a kid because it was overly long and the shark looked as fake as fake can look, I must say that I loved Piranha - and still do! Joe Dante’s gory and fun horror outing isn’t overly long, and the Rob Bottin ‘n Chris Walas effects hold up well. Plus, having Barbara Steele, Kevin McCarthy, Bradford Dillman, Dick Miller, Belinda Balaski and Paul Bartel in the cast sure doesn’t hurt either. Taking advantage of tax incentives, Roger Corman set sail to the sunny island of Puerto Rico in 1960 to film a couple of low budget movies: Battle of Blood Island, and Last Woman on Earth. Since he had the crew and equipment, a script was created overnight and he snuck in Creature From the Haunted Sea in record time. Last Woman on Earth was filmed in color, and is presented here remastered. The other two films were filmed in B&W, and each film features things like additional scenes filmed for TV, commentary, and are hosted by Roger Corman.  DVD

OK, here’s a head-scratching triple feature… Who thought it would be a good idea to team up the Peter Jackson CGI fest King Kong (2005) with the enjoyable and classic man-in-a-moneky-suit Japanese big monster movies, KING KONG VS. GODZILLA (1963) and its sequel, KING KONG ESCAPES (1968)?… Well, whoever’s idea it was, it’s here for the viewing on a nice cheap no frills DVD package.

Tom Savini directed remake of the 1968 zombie classic wasn’t really all that bad. Good performances from Tony Todd, Pat Tallman, Tom Towels and the rest of the cast helps.  DVD

It’s director Jess Franco’s atmospheric adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel with Christopher Lee in the title role. Presented uncut for the first time in America on DVD. Herbert Lom, Klaus Kinski, Soledad Miranda and Franco regular Jack Taylor round out the cast. Also includes a Jess Franco featurette, Christopher Lee reading Stoker’s “Dracula”, an essay on Soledad Miranda and photo gallery. Chris Lee calls this his favorite version of Dracula... When they stumble across a real dead body, they decide to use it in their film. Not only do they accidentally bring the corpse back to life, but they open a portal to the world of the dead that unleashes dozens of other zombies. A couple of early werewolf movie classics on one DVD. In WEREWOLF OF LONDON, botanist Wilfred Glendon (Henry Hull) travels to Tibet in search of a rare flower that only blooms in moonlight. Upon his return to London, he’s told a series of murders is the work of two werewolves and the flower he just found can keep them from harming the ones they love - which comes in handy when Glendon becomes a werewolf himself.

In SHE-WOLF OF LONDON, a string of bloody murders is happening in the park. Phyllis Allenby (June Lockhart) fears that her family curse, which led to her parents death, has transformed her into a she-wolf and she’s the one doing the killing. Now out of print DVD.

In the classic King Kong, we find Carl Denham’s (Robert Armstrong) film crew heading off to a tropical island where a colossal ape known as Kong is reported to live. Sure enough, they find Kong, and he takes a shine to their blond star (Fay Wray). Captured by the crew, Kong is brought back to New York City, breaks free, and goes on a rampage.

In SON OF KONG, Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong) the showman who brought Kong to New York returns to Skull Island and finds the spunky 12 foot “son” of Kong. King Kong includes commentary from visual arts vets Ray Harryhausen and Ken Ralston, and Son of Kong includes the original trailer.  DVD

One of Karloff’s last films, co-directed and produced by Jack Hill, is now long out of print. DVD

Horror novelist Roger Cobb (William Katt) moves into a strange old house left to him by his late aunt in order to finish his latest book and get over the disappearance of his son. Already on the edge, Cobb’s sanity comes under siege by nightmares, visits from a nosy neighbor, and an onslaught of other worldly creatures from another dimension in this enjoyable cult horror-comedy from director Steve Miner. Now out of print DVD.

When a disposal company dumps radioactive waste into the New York City sewers, they spawn the C.H.U.D. - Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers, a clan that’s been infected by radioactivity. After the police captain’s wife goes missing along with several other people in the same area, a search of the tunnels and sewers below the city streets is in order… And I can’t say they enjoy what they discover. No frills DVD.

This collection begins with with all 12 chapters of FLASH GORDON CONQUERS THE UNIVERSE (1940), the 3^rd and last serial in the original series. Mara, the Queen of the Black Witches and her coven capture and sacrifice various men in her castle sanctuary in this drive-in classic from Ted V. Mikels. This is the long out of print Image Entertainment release of the film, and looks better than most releases that followed it. The DVD includes commentary and original trailer.

From director Antonio Bido comes this Italian giallo thriller about a young nightclub dancer who witnesses a murder. Now, her boyfriend and her attempt to track down the killer before he can get to her and silence her forever. Stylish, with plenty of atmosphere, WMWIK borrows heavily from Italian masters like Dario Argento and Mario Bava, which isn’t really a bad thing in this case.

New 4K transfer includes original trailers, commentary from somebody that wasn’t in the film, interview with another guy who had nothing to do with the film, and three short films from the film’s director, Antonio Bido.  DVD

Scientist Henry Pryde (Bernie Casey) is working on an experimental serum that will reverse liver damage. He and his colleague, Dr. Worth (Rosalind Cash), believe they’ve perfected the serum so he begins a series of experiments, even using the serum on himself. The results are disastrous and transform him into a hulking hooker-murdering monster in one of the better “blaxploitation” films from the 70s.  DVD

One of the few good horror films based on a Stephen King novel, director Brian DePalma hit a home run with the story of high school misfit Carrie (Sissy Spacek), who unleashes her telekinetic powers on her psychotic mother (Piper Laurie) and classmates (including John Travolta, PJ Soles, and Amy Irving) after years of torment and abuse at their hands.
