Our Saturday Night Film Screenings will Include:
A British Horror Film Double Feature -
CORRIDORS OF BLOOD (1958) During a time when surgeries and amputations were horribly painful and extremely dangerous to the patients, Dr. Thomas Bolton (Boris Karloff) is searching for something to ease the suffering of hissurgery patients. He painstakingly develops an opium-based anesthetic and in the process, becomes addicted to his own experimental drug. In order to provide himself with a steady supply of the chemicals he needs to continue his experiments (and addiction) he falls in with a group of murders, (including Christopher Lee), who forge his signature to sell cadavers to the local hospital while Karloff slowly loses his grip on his sanity as well as his surgical skills along the way. This is an odd, yet entertaining British horror film that I don’t remember even playing late night television all that often back in the day.
DEVIL’S OF DARKNESS (1965) In a sleepy village in Brittany, France, a couple ofBritish tourists are found dead. The police rule the deaths accidental, but in reality, they were the work of a Satanic cult of vampires. Armond du Moliere, the Count Sinistre (Hubert Noel), and his Gypsy bride, Tanya (Carole Gray), control everything through their dark vampire cult. It seems that the British tourists discovered their headquarters beneath the town cemetery, disturbed their coffins, and had to die. Paul Baxter (William Sylvester), one of the Britishtourists escaped and took the Count’s bat talisman with him. To retrieve it and exact his revenge, the Count takes the whole cult with him to England! There were plenty of British vampire films made in the 1960s but this one didn’t come from Hammer Studios. It was made at Pinewood Studios, but will remind you of a Hammer film in many ways.
WASTELAND INTERMISSION REEL - A terrific 23 minute reel of classic horror, sci-fi and fantasy film trailers and shorts will screen between feature films.
CASPER THE FRIENDLY GHOST (1953) “By The Old Mill Scream” - At the amateur Fright Night, Spook Bones one-ghost band is a hit, but they toss Casper out when he tries to sing his friendly theme song. When he comes across some beavers building a dam, he does what he always does and scares them all off… except for Short Tail, who is heartbroken because the other beavers won’t let him help. The other beavers soon see Short Tail and Casper in a new light when a hungry wolf with a plunger-gun comes hunting after them.
THE THREE STOOGES (1956) “Scheming Schemers” - It’s a remake of “A Plumbing We Will Go” (the Stooge classic with Curly), when Moe, Larry, and Shemp are incompetent plumbers who foul up the plumbing in a fancy mansion during a society party and manage to catch a couple of art thieves masquerading as guests before things degenerate into a pie fight. This is one of the “Shempless Shorts” made using scenes from other Stooge shorts made before Shemp died.
