Hillbilly Comedy Collection
Here we have a quartet of classic “Hillbilly” films from the 1940s when they were first popular, and the 1960s when they made a comeback. First up is LAS VEGAS HILLBILLYS (1966) where we find Woody Wetherby (Ferlin Husky) hiring Tawny (Jayne Mansfield) and Boots (Mamie Van Doren) help make the dilapidated casino he inherited a success.
In HILLBILLYS IN A HAUNTED HOUSE (1967) two country singers and their manager become stranded at a haunted mansion and get mixed up with spies on their way to Nashville. With Ferlin Husky, Joi Lansing, John Carradine, and Lon Chaney, Jr.
Next up, we head back to the beginnings with PRIVATE SNUFFY SMITH (1942) where we find bootlegger Snuffy Smith (Bud Duncan) trading in his still for a pair of army boots… and finds that the revenue agent that’s been after him is now his sergeant!
Last, we have the classic LI’L ABNER (1940) where we witness the goings-on in the rural community of Dogpatch, USA… the first in a few films made over the years based on Al Capp’s popular comic strip, with Granville Owen, Martha O’Driscoll, Mona Ray, Buster Keaton, and the always dependable Edgar Kennedy.
